Welcome to Prim It All!
First, to share a little about myself and my credentials… I am a two time graduate from TSTC with associates in Digital Imaging and Design Technology and Web Development Technology, and I am currently pursuing another associate’s degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design. I joined Second Life in 2006, while still going to college for my degree in DIDT. I soon began building, and just like most beginning content creators in Second Life my designs sucked. But I kept at it, and over the next 5 years, despite the many trials, burn outs and other frustrations I still love to build and I like to think I’m not too shabby at it; and now I am in the process of opening four stores with my partner and co-owner. In real life I am a part time instructor at the college that I am also currently a student at, and I teach in the brand new Digital Signage Technology department, as well I work on freelance projects both for real life advertising and Second Life content. Through my job with the college I have discovered my passion for teaching, but unfortunately at the end of this month I will no longer be an employee at TSTC due to budget cuts. However I don’t want to abandon teaching altogether, and because of the many requests I have had from friends in Second Life about getting help with building and using Photoshop I have decided to start this blog.
My goal with this blog is provide tips & tricks, tutorials, resources, and other ideas for Second Life designers and content creators that I have learned and gathered over the years. I will share information about actual building/creating in Second Life, and information on an assortment of external programs in which to assist with content creation in Second Life.
- Will all my posts be about new techniques? Probably not, in fact you could most definitely find this information on at least a hundred other websites.
- So why am I taking the time to re-post this information? Because as an educator, I have learned that different people learn in different ways, and it may be that I explain a concept or technique in such a way that makes more sense to you, or someone else.
- Are my methods the best? Yes, for me they are, I've honed my skills and methods over the years in such a way that they make sense to me, but I don’t expect them to work for everyone else. I hope I can provide enough information that you can take your new knowledge and apply it in a way that works best for you.
Beyond my tips & tricks and tutorials I will also occasionally offer classes in Second Life about building, texturing, and scripting as well as classes looking at Adobe Photoshop, and possibly other programs. I will update the blog with dates for those classes; they will be open to the public and completely free of charge.
Have something specific you want to learn about, or are you having trouble building/texturing/scripting something, or difficulties with Photoshop? Send me an e-mail or contact me in Second Life (Keikei Baxton), when I have a chance I will do my best to help you out.
I hope you find this blog easy to use and informative, and look forward to your comments and questions!
